Health & Beauty: 10 Year Birthday Celebrations – Part 2

By RoxyK

The clock is ticking and The Next 48hOURS Birthday Bash is around the corner. The decorations are up and there is a hype of excitement in every department. My team and I are trying and testing different products, make-up, perfumes and spa treatments so that we can bring you the “BEST” of Cape Town to coincide with our 10th year birthday celebrations.
During our search we found a hidden gem in the heart of our city. Cayenne Spa at the Pepperclub Hotel has an array of treatments that are tailored to soothe and rejuvenate the mind, body and soul. Two members of the team were pampered with Intonga stick massages.
This is done via a rolling method across the body for a more intense massage of oils into the body. The results were therapeutic, relaxing and calming. Cayenne Spa can be found at Loop and Pepper Street in Cape Town.

As winter draws in we have to take extra care of our skin. That means a deep moisturizer containing the correct products. Some women prefer a skin care range that is free of parabens, sulphates, synthetic colourants, lanolin derivatives and mineral oils. My research showed that witch hazel extracts works as an anti-inflammatory and locks in moisture, while protecting against cell damage. Olive oil is healing, hydrating and softening. Vitamin A promotes cell renewal. Polyphenols, phytosterols and avenasterols fight free radicals and repairs cell membranes. Citric acid assists with skin renewal and helps increase collagen production. Vitamin B promotes cell growth and Vitamin E maintains the skin’s oil balance. All of this might sound like too much to ingest, but the truth is that products with natural ingredients are less harsh to the skin. To maintain a healthy, glowy skin we need products that promote cell growth and hydrate the skin by regulating trans-epidermal loss. Products like SKNLogic, Beauscience, Eucerin and Philosophia Botanica all seem to be popular.

The best advice I have ever been given is to never sleep with make-up. Whilst make-up is a surface product that enhances your looks and smoothes out flaws, keeping it on for longer periods of time may tend to clog pores and cause breakouts. The skin repairs itself whilst the body is at rest, so invest in a good night cream that will repair the skin and help with cell renewal.
Pamper your body by using a creamy shower gel and make sure that the skin is well hydrated with a healing and moisturizing lotion. During winter change your light moisturizers to a creamy one for more cover and hydration. A serum under your night cream also works well in winter.

If your skin is sensitive change your exfoliator for one that is creamy and less harsh on the skin. Choose rich, creamy and hydrating night creams and moisturizers that will help combat dry skin and reduce signs of aging. We are all striving for beautiful skin from head to toe and that takes great effort on our part to search for the ultimate formula. Let us know of your beauty regime so we can share it with other women. Send your ideas via email, Facebook and Twitter.
