I am always on the lookout for things to do over the weekend, especially in the middle of the month when money might be a bit tight. Here are a list of great, cost effective things to do over the Easter weekend:
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon 2014 was “Designed to Run” as it is the most beautiful marathon in the world.
The race takes place on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, through the beautiful landscape of Cape Town and with numerous viewing points along the route. Pack a picnic basket and line the route to support the runners. For more information and for the location of viewing points, visit www.twooceansmarathon.co.za. You can also pop into the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Expo at the CTICC and say hi to me at the Old Mutual Live radio station. The Expo runs from Wednesday to Friday, April 16 to 18.
The youngsters are in for a treat at The V&A waterfront as Lindt have set up a magical Easter garden in the Barrow Court at the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre from Thursday, April 17, to Monday, April 21, from 11am to 2.30pm and then again from 3pm to 6pm. There is also a free Lindt Gold Bunny Magical Race that comes complete with soft plush bunny rides ranging in size to accommodate up to 20 young visitors at a time.
The age restriction for bunny racers is three to nine years old and young visitors will be able to bunny race around the large track demarcated with white picket fencing. Visit www.waterfront.co.za.
Do something special with your family/friends this Easter. Join the Delvera Hi-Tec Easter Full Moon Hike and enjoy beautiful views of Cape Town from Klapmutskop and maybe you’ll even find the Easter bunny on Tuesday, April 15, at Dirtopia Trail Centre, Delvera Farm, R44 between Klapmuts and Stellenbosch. Its only R60 pp and (R25 for children under 10 yrs) includes an Easter surprise, an optional shuttle and a map. Visit www.dirtopia.co.za.
The Muizenberg Historical Walk on Easter Sunday, April 20, is an ideal way to brush up on your history while drinking in the fresh sea air on a languid walk along the white sandy shores of the Cape Peninsula. Director of the Muizenberg Historical Society Chris Taylor will take an intimate group on an easy-paced 1.5km walk (three hours) and give participants fascinating accounts of the area during visits to some of Muizenberg’s most storied spots. Tickets cost R100p/p and must be pre-booked by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hop on down to the Delvera agri-village in Stellenbosch for an afternoon filled with sweet treats. In celebration of Easter, annual egg hunts are scheduled for Thursday, April 17; Saturday, April 19; and Monday, April 21, at the kiddies venue, Kids Xing (crossing). A range of flags (with price tags on them) will be planted in the lush garden, and little ones are invited to snatch up the hidden treasures and redeem them for yummy Easter eggs at the venue’s front desk. Entry to the egg hunt is free.
These are just some of the great events happening over Easter weekend.
Tweet me @liezelv if you know of any other events, and we’ll be sure to post it on 48hours.co.za.
