Taiwanese pianist Ching-Yun Hu will perform for the Johannesburg Musical Society on Saturday, April 12, at 8pm in the Linder Auditorium at Wits University in Parktown.
Hu has been hailed for her poetic use of colour in her playing and promises to set the Linder Auditorium alight with her blazing technical mastery.
She was overall winner at the 12th Rubinstein International Competition in Tel Aviv. Her final round performances of both Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 1 and Prokofiev’s Concerto No 3 were broadcast live to 38 countries.
For this third concert in the Johannesburg Musical Society’s 2014 season, Hu will play an essentially romantic and colourful programme that includes Chopin’s wonderful Sonata in B Flat Minor (the ‘funeral march’ sonata), followed by Ravel’s virtuosic Gaspard de la Nuit, while the second half of the programme will be devoted to the music of Spain, with pieces from Granados’s Goyescas and Albeniz’s Iberian Suite.
* Tickets can be booked at www.computicket.com, and will also be available at the Linder an hour before the start of the performance. However, note that there is no credit card facility at the Linder box office. Students 23 years and under with a valid student card pay less for tickets.
