Way back in the 1980s the invention of virtual reality games with simple graphics and clunky head gear was invented. We remember playing some of those games in arcades and it definitely was a quite an experience. The problem these systems faced was that the head gear with the virtual screen was heavy and the screen itself could only be used for low quality graphics.
However, technology has come a long way since then and virtual screens have become much better. We tested the video glasses from “Mantality”. These glasses are as small as a pair of reading glasses with a slightly thicker front and have built in earphones. The unit offers the viewer a full 84 inch size simulated virtual display to watch videos. It also creates the effect that the screen is a mere 2 metres away. So you probably are wondering how? Any video Ipod, Ipad or video playing device or gaming device can be plugged to the glasses. The device then optimizes the picture quality for viewing.
This device really signals the next generation of virtual reality.
‘Metal Gear Solid 5’ too short
The new ‘Metal Gear Solid’ game, ‘Ground Zeroes’, is under scrutiny by gamers around the world for being too short. Apart from the challenges, gamers are already competing for best time to complete levels or the entire game. One gamer finished the entire game in 89 minutes. Another tough gamer completed the “Prison Camp” level in just 7 minutes.
The unwritten quest of the game has now become the “Speed Run” where the objective is to complete the entire game without alerting a guard, using weapons and reflex abilities.
Besides the alternative challenge, ‘Ground Zeroes’ plays much the same as the series’ last major hit, namely ‘Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots’. It’s the same unique mix of stealth and shooting, where the guards are smart enough to keep you on your toes. We also noticed that the way you tag enemies with your binoculars is straight out of ‘Assassin’s Creed’, and an optional automatic bullet-time mode gives you a few precious seconds to take out alerted enemies before they sound the alarm.
It is definitely up there with many of the top first person shooter games and we reckon that paired with the video glasses it will deliver a totally new gaming experience.
