Catch a drift of SA’s new driving craze – WIN tickets

If squealing, smoking tyres and the roar of hot engines appeals to you then don’t miss out on the third stop of the 2014 AutoTrader SupaDrift Championship at GrandWest on Saturday, April 12.
Starting at 9am, more than 40 of South Africa’s top drifters will over-steer their high-powered machines around the course.
At the same time, the Wheels of Fury Exhibition will display exotic rides and pimped cars as well as showcase aftermarket performance products. And for those who prefer to live life at a fast and furious pace, there will also be drift shuttle rides so they can experience the thrill of travelling sideways on a track.

Drifting is the world’s fastest growing motor sport, and is quickly gaining popularity in South Africa. Drifting involves the intentional over-steering of cars, which causes a loss of traction in the rear wheels. Drivers must maintain control from entry to exit of a corner, with the intention of gaining style points from judges and spectators. Points are determined by style, drift angle, tyre smoke and noise maintained around a fixed course.

Last year the inaugural drift championship saw thousands of fans follow the series from Brakpan to Kimberley and Mahikeng to Port Shepstone as they watched South Africa’s top drivers compete to secure enough points to become the country’s first national drifting champion. At the adrenaline led final, held in central Durban, the youngest drifter in the series, Jason Webb was crowned the first ever national drift champion.
Drivers hail from every major province in South Africa, as well as some from bordering countries such as Mozambique. The age of competitors ranges from 19 to 50 and older, and the sport attracts men and women alike.

* Tickets to the Expo will be available at the door at R80 for adults, R50 for children under 12 and free entry for those under three years old.
