With harvest in full-swing, the annual Paarl Ommiberg “Round the Rock” festival to be held on Saturday, March 8 from 10am until 6pm and on Sunday, March 9 from 11am until 4pm, will offer visitors not only the opportunity to taste the first unfiltered wines of the 2014 vintages, but to enjoy a relaxed day out in the winelands with unique offerings and activities to suit the whole family.
Visitors will be given a glimpse into working wineries, offered the opportunity to pick and stomp their own grapes, enjoy tractor rides through the vineyards and test their winemaking skills by creating their own blends and pairing the young unfiltered wines with traditional onion tart – a custom rooted in Germany and adopted by the OmmiBerg festival. Also on offer will be cooking demonstrations, art exhibitions, live entertainment and cellar tours.
Adding to the day’s festivities will be jumping castles, slippery slides, pony rides, face painting, kids’ croquet and rides on a wagon to keep the kiddies busy.
With more than seventeen wineries to choose from visitors will be spoilt for choice. Unfiltered wines, live music and Zwiebelkuchen (onion tart) tastings are free throughout the event, whilst meals and special activities should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment and are payable separately.
* Festival ticket prices are R80 per person over the age of 18 and can be booked at www.webtickets.co.za, or on the day at a cost of R100 at any of the participating wineries or restaurants and includes an engraved wine glass, access to and tasting of young wines at all participating wine farms. Accompanied children under 18 years of age enter free.
