Capetonian fans can look forward to seeing Carlos Santana performing for the very first time in the Mother City in the following week. The guitar legend will be performing live at the GrandWest Grand Arena from Tuesday to Thursday, February 25 to 27.
It is for good reason that Santana is regarded as one of the best guitarists in the world. From his earliest days as a ground breaking Afro-Latin-Blues-Rock-Fusion outfit in San Francisco 40 years ago, Santana’s music has gone on to transcended all musical genres and generational, cultural, and geographical boundaries.
1969 was a breakthrough year for Santana with the release of a self-titled debut album and the band’s emergence onto the global stage with an epic set at the iconic Woodstock festival.
Almost 40 albums later, Santana has sold more than 100-million records, reached more than 100-million fans at concerts worldwide and won 10 Grammy awards. He received a Life Time Achievement honour in the 2009 Billboard Latin Music Awards and was recently honoured at the prestigious 2013 Kennedy Centre Awards in Washington DC.
Santana’s most recent album ‘Shape Shifter’ was released in 2012 and is an instrumental tour de force with only one song featuring vocals, by Santana’s lead vocalists Andy Vargas and Tony Lindsay.
* The show starts at 8pm and tickets are available from Computicket between R510 and R850.
