The popular Cape Town Prawn Festival at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday, February 22 will coincide with two significant feature races: the R250000 Lektron Chairman’s Cup (Grade 3) and the R250000 Two Oceans Racing Prix du Cap (Grade 3) for fillies and mares.
The Lektron Chairman’s Cup (Grade 3) is a merit rated handicap over 3200m, providing a rare chance for endurance runners to strut their stuff. This year’s field will pit emergent marathon performers against stalwart stayers in a great spectacle and test of fitness.
The Two Oceans Racing Prix Du Cap gives fillies and mares an opportunity to enhance their paddock value towards the end of summer. History has shown that many winners of this 1400m race have gone on to become valuable broodmares. Punters will be challenged by the powerful field, ranging from talented three year olds that contested recent Classic races, to well-established older stars.
Committed sponsor Lektron will be giving away 100 prizes of household appliances to the value of R70 000 – patrons need to be on course to qualify for these prizes.
Entry to this on-course festival is free, with prawns temptingly sold at unbeatable prices – half a kg costing R59, with 1kg going for R99, including rice & chips. Adding to the vibe will be a live broadcast by Goodhope FM with plenty of free kiddies entertainment also laid on for eager youngsters.
It promises to be a great day for racing fans and seafood lovers – indeed a fun outing for the whole family to savour as the Summer of Champions season draws to a successful conclusion.
