This Valentine’s Day, Liefde Bistro at Oude Werf Hotel in Stellenbosch has put together a tantalising 5-course menu for couples wanting to indulge in cuisine that celebrates the joy of sharing really good food – sometimes off a shared plate, and sometimes off your own.
On arrival, guests will be treated to a glass of refreshing sparkling cranberry followed by an individually plated tasting course to get the taste buds going. Some of the first course options include a mini prawn cocktail with Marie Rose sauce, goat’s cheese and wild berry bruschetta with micro herbs, a Caprese skewer with bocconchini mozzarella or gorgeous heart-shaped parmesan croute with roasted cherry tomatoes, feta and olives.
The sharing course for loved-up couples is a mouth-watering Mediterranean combo of roasted bell peppers, cured meats, dolmades, marinated olives and mushrooms all served with homemade crusty breads and a basil-infused dipping oil.
Some food is best enjoyed for one – so the course to follow will be plated individually. Guests can tuck into a hearty serving of either braised beef short rib with potato rosti and stewed baby onions, seared Norwegian salmon – with a barley and fennel risotto with dill crème – or beetroot tarte tatin served with a watercress and walnut salad.
And then comes more sharing – because sugar is for my sweetheart. Couples can share a baked white chocolate pudding with candied baby toffee apple, a mille feuille of berries and Chantilly cream or pomegranate jelly with vanilla yoghurt crème.
To round off an evening of delicious cuisine shared with the one you love best, the final course is an individually plated cheese course of blue cheese mousse with candied figs and poppy seed and parmesan crisp.
