For four performances only, the stars of Cape Town City Ballet will return to the stage of the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg from February 6 to 8.
In what has now become somewhat of a tradition, it is the twelfth consecutive year for the company to perform at the Masque and audiences can look forward to a tribute to the great Romantic ballets, ‘Les Sylphides’, as well as highlights from the company’s popular production ‘Belles & Beaux of the Ballet’.
‘Les Sylphides’ tells the story of a young poet wandering through the forest, dreaming about his inspirations and encountering a group of beautiful woodland spirits (sylphs) dancing in the moonlight. The music of Frédéric Chopin sets the tone for the serene beauty of this ethereal and graceful ballet.
In highlights from the recent festive season hit ‘Belles & Beaux of the Ballet’, ballerinas and danseurs will perform in scenes from favourite ballets. For modern ballet lovers it will include extracts from the jazzy ‘The Italian Affair’ and classical dance lovers will be treated to the erotic pas de deux from ‘Scheherazade and ‘Trepak’ from ‘The Nutcracker’. The humorous ‘Valse Excentrique’ and dynamic pas de deux from ‘Don Quixote’ are sure to thrill as well.
The programme will end with scenes from the third act of Veronica Paeper’s ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’.
* Performances will be on Thursday to Friday, February 6 to, at 8pm; and on Saturday, February 8, at 2.30pm and 6.30pm.
