Retail giant Pick n Pay in association with the PinkDrive will continue their battle against breast cancer when the first Pick n Pay Women’s Walk of the New Year takes place in Stellenbosch on Saturday, January 25. This is the third consecutive year that the series of 5km walks will be hosted nationwide in aid of breast cancer awareness.
The Pick n Pay Women’s Walk kicked off in Cape Town in 2011 and to date 28 events have taken place around South Africa to educate women and their families on the importance of regular check-ups and a healthy lifestyle. Funds raised during the events support free cancer screening and health advice in local communities.
To date more than 43000 people have participated in the series of which more than 25000 received health education from the PinkDrive and over 5000 women were examined by trained nurses.
As the Stellenbosch Pick n Pay Women’s Walk will co-incide with the first day of the annual Stellenbosch wine festival, organisers have also invited female workers from participating wine farms to attend these screenings.
* The walk will start at 7.30am from the Coetzenburg Sports Grounds and will take in the sports campus and surrounding hills with magnificent views of Stellenbosch town. The entry fee is R40 for adults and R20 for children under 18.
Entry tickets can be bought online at www.pnptickets.co.za. Tickets will also be available from Pick n Pay Stellenbosch, Stellenbosch Square and Waterstone village. For more information, visit www.pnp.co.za.
