Whether you are a local or a visitor to the fine shores of the Mother City, the V&A Food Market is the one food destination that should definitely be on your list of ‘to-visit’ in Cape Town.
Launched in December 2012, the V&A Food Market quickly entrenched itself in the heart of local and visiting foodies, many of whom now visit the market on a regular basis for a quick post-work drink with friends, or to pick up their favourite selection of both local and foreign culinary delights.
The world-class, fresh food and produce market is located in the V&A Waterfront’s Nobel Square between the Two Oceans Aquarium and the V&A Hotel. Open Monday to Sunday from 9.30am to 6pm, the market is housed in a large air-conditioned Heritage building and has plenty of parking conveniently located nearby to ensure your food shopping experience is nothing but pleasurable.
Each of the market’s vendors have been carefully selected to ensure that a wide variety of items are on offer. Each vendor displays goods of the highest quality; whether fresh, local, organic or homemade, there is something to tempt just about everyone.
Aside from offering freshly-prepared meals from across the globe – from Dim Sum to Nachos – patrons will also find an array of taste sensations to purchase for their kitchen or pantry from local butchers, cheese makers, bakers and fresh produce merchants. Homemade delights including local jams, soups and olive oils are nestled alongside cooking-inspired clothing, an empanada stall and Dr. Juice, where you can find a refreshing drink before continuing on your culinary adventure.
To take the foodie experience to an even higher level, the V&A Food Market also offers a fully equipped on-site demo kitchen where cooking classes and demonstrations take place.
Leave the little ones to play in the kids’ entertainment area while you enjoy a craft brew and sample some of the market’s tempting offerings, or swing past on the weekend and enjoy the local entertainment while doing your morning grocery shopping.
