UK’s Glorious Goodwood comes to L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate

The eyes of the international horse-racing fraternity will be on Cape Town in January, when England’s revered Glorious Goodwood holds a high-profile race during the 11th running of South Africa’s most prestigious equestrian event, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate on Saturday, January 11, at Kenilworth Race Course. (Tickets on sale at Computicket.)

One of Cape society’s hot tickets, the 153rd running of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate will feature a glittering array of glamorous new additions. For the first time ever, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2014 will feature 12 races as opposed to 10, with two prominent international races on the card.

England’s most revered race, the Glorious Goodwood, will run its Peninsula Stakes as the second internationally-recognised race on the card along with the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, the only horserace in South Africa which grants its winner automatic entry to the Breeders’ Cup, the world’s biggest race-day held annually in the USA.

“The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and Glorious Goodwood are the most prestigious and exciting racing events on their respective continents, so this association is well suited to provide the absolute highest standard of race day entertainment,” says Adam Waterworth, Managing Director of Goodwood Racecourse.

With a winner’s purse of R1 million, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is South Africa’s most prestigious weight-for-age race and sees the best 16 thoroughbreds in the country run according to their merit ratings.

Alongside the track, the unsurpassed elegance of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate will manifest in an array of race-day fashions in the event’s signature blue and white dress theme with world-class entertainment and a variety of hospitality and culinary offerings making this the ideal setting for a day at the races.

As the perfect hat is always an essential compliment to a flawless outfit, Little Hattery will be sponsoring vouchers for every ticket purchased for L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2014. This entitles each ticket holder to book a consultation with a sales representative from Little Hattery, who will in turn provide assistance in finding a seemly hat for the occasion.

Once more, those in attendance can expect the annual highlights of the Best Dressed and Best Hat competitions, and L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2014 will present the first ever Best Dressed Man competition to acknowledge the most stylish gentleman of the day.

A variety of ticket options are available, starting with the premier Jockey Club ticket, valued at R2500, which enables access to ultra-exclusive suites and all hospitality areas, a three-course seated meal, complimentary drinks, entrance to the Jockey Club and the illustrious after party featuring top international acts and first-rate entertainment.

The Stud Club ticket, valued at R1200, includes entrance to the most popular hospitality marquee, featuring private bars and lounge areas, with a complimentary light lunch, L’Ormarins wines and Peroni beer served until 6pm. This ticket also includes on-site makeup artists for touch-ups during the day, and entrance into the Style Lounge Village and exclusive after party.

The Style Lounge ticket option, valued at R250, grants access into the Style Lounge Village, access to the horse race and after party, as well as tote facilities and parking.

Presented by L’Ormarins since 2005, the Queen’s Plate is renowned for being one of the Cape’s most acclaimed social occasions, where fashion, art, a passion for equestrian excellence and the ancient winemaking skills of Antonij Rupert meet to form a premier experience.
