Living loud with Liezel: Last Minute Xmas shopping at local markets

I love December in the Mother City, as there is an array of markets to enjoy and do some last minute Christmas shopping at. I have compiled a list of just a few of the many festivals and markets happening in and around Cape Town over the next few days.

Langa Quarter Summer Market
The sister market to the Company’s Garden-based Cape Town Summer Market, this township bazaar offers retail therapy, live entertainment and more just off the N2 national road at the old St. Louis Primary School (on the corner of Rubusana Avenue and N’Dabeni Street) from Friday to Tuesday, December 20 to 24.

Gansbaai Christmas Market
This town is known for its dense population of Great White Sharks and as a whale-watching location, but you can also enjoy a fun and family friendly market that runs until December 21.

The Cape Town Summer Market
This market formerly known as the Adderley Street Night Market, is open until Monday, December 30. Spread throughout the Company’s Garden, the market has been billed as a one-stop destination for locals and visitors to do their Christmas gift-shopping while enjoying local culinary offerings (and this is one of my favorite markets).

Yzerfontein Snoek festival
This festival runs until the end of December with various activities happening in and around this beautiful West Coast town. There are Christmas markets, touch rugby, sand castle building competitions, wine actions, art exhibitions and much more.

Blaauwklippen Christmas Market
Beautiful Blaauwklippen brings the classical European Christmas markets to the heart of the Cape Winelands. Prepare yourself for a tempting variety of festive food including Pfefferkuchenhaus, Christstollen, toffee apples, gingerbread biscuits, fruitcakes and cinnamon pancakes. Shop for a diverse selection of gifts ranging from fashion items, handcrafted wooden toys, handmade candles, ceramics and jewellery. Live music, carols by candlelight and kids entertainment will ensure there’s fun for the entire family.

Kattebak Market
Inspired by the well-known brocante markets in the French countryside (better known as car boot sales), The Market at the Palms is introducing their own Kattebak Market in the heart of Woodstock. This is where you’ll find wonderful bargains – an eclectic mix of great finds – from linen, crystal, porcelain, books, clothing and even golden oldies – including LPs and other forms of music. It runs until Saturday December 21.

Edgemead Christmas Market
This is an annual craft and gift market held every December in the run-up to Christmas. Catch it until December 23.

There are so many great markets this weekend, and I am sure it will ease your Christmas shopping.
