The acclaimed pianist Jan Hugo, who recently won the SAMRO bursary for overseas studies, will perform a selection of classical works at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium, Picton Street, Parow on Sunday October 13 at 3.30pm.
His program will include popular works by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Chopin and Bartok.
Hugo’s national and international achievements are numerous. His first breakthrough came in 2003 when he claimed gold at the Sanlam National Music Competition as a student of the well-known Claudine van Breda from Pretoria.
He was only 13 when he left for Modena, Italy to continue his music studies at the Instituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “Vecchi-Tonelli”. In March 2010 he obtained his bachelor’s degree cum laude.
In 2011 he claimed the first prize in the Unisa National Piano Competition and the next year the performer’s licentiate competition at the same institution. More recently he was also the winner of the SAMRO Overseas Bursary Competition for keyboard players (Western music).
Hugo’s concert in Parow is part of a local concert tour before he leaves for Leipzig, Germany to pursue his master studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
