The Rust Co-operative is bringing back ‘Expectant’, their acclaimed, 2013 National Arts Festival Standard Bank Ovation Award winner, after a successful run at the Alexander Bar recently.
Expectant will be showing for three shows only from Sunday September 1 to 3 at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective in Observatory
‘Expectant’ follows a young woman’s self examination as both performer and character, trying to make sense of herself as she realises her short life amounts to little more than a series of unrealistic expectations and disappointments. The play, written, designed and directed by Penelope Youngleson, stars Rebecca Makin-Taylor and also showcased the sonic mastery of Ben and Joanie Ludik (of Invisible Nightclub fame).
The Rust Co-operative, founded by Philip Rademeyer and Youngleson, is a play-space for young theatre makers, directors, performers and thinkers to collaborate on new theatrical works. The company is perhaps best known for ‘The View’, their celebrated production that earned Gideon Lombard a Best Actor nomination at this year’ Fleur du Cap Awards. Ella Gabriel, who co-starred along Lombard, was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category.
