The Auto & General Theatre on the Square will be hosting ‘RATS’, starring Lionel Newton, as part of the 2013 Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival.
The one-man show, starring the award-winning actor, is directed by Sylvaine Strike (winner of the Best Director Award Naledi, 2013).
This theatre nugget comprises three separate works – ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’, by the acclaimed poet Robert Browning; a burning satirical piece written by Nick Warren, aptly penned as ‘The Hand-Over’; and a contemporary absurd monologue, written by Newton, entitled ‘His Majesty’.
‘RATS’ promises theatregoers technique and creative virtuosity in the combination of Strike and Newton, following the runaway success of ‘The Miser’. The thread, holding these three very different showcases together, echoes the very theme of modern-day existence in the beautiful chaos of Johannesburg; the notion that we are all creatures of survival.
The production will be presented as part of the Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival.
