I recently tried out one of the newest ways of exercising in the Mother City. My interest was piqued by their tag line: “Why do long workouts if you only need 20 minutes per week?” This was my first introduction to Bodytec. I am always sceptical about “quick” workouts and decided to research this new technology before giving it a try.

The Bodytec concept is based on personal fitness training with electro muscle stimulation (EMS) and is the first EMS studio in South Africa.
According to their site, “Bodytec is the perfect fitness solution and all round training. It quickly produces effective, visible results and fat content and weight are reduced. Your muscles are gently defined as your physical strength and endurance increases. This highly effective training method has been used by professional athletes and sports rehabilitation centres for decades.”
Research shows that EMS training is up to 18 times more effective than conventional fitness training. 20 minutes with Bodytec is as effective as three 90 minute workouts in a gym.

So, what do you get with Bodytech?
• A modern and personal studio with individual attention.
• Training by appointment only. (So no waiting time.)
• Maximum of two clients per EMS training session.

More on EMS: From a technical point of view, it is a full body training exercise using impulse current. In everyday life our central nervous system constantly sends electrical impulses to control our muscle action. EMS uses this natural principle and is able to intensify this process to reach deeper muscle layers which are hard to activate through conventional training. This is achieved by applying EMS electrodes to the skin directly above the muscle. This allows you to gain the best work-out results. Muscles are additionally stimulated through the electrodes while doing a series of low-impact exercises. This combined training leads to an additional increase of tension producing highly effective training results. Your personal trainer can control each muscle group by adjusting the training intensity according to your individual goals. With EMS you achieve visible and tangible success in a very short time.
This is a great workout but it isn’t a quick fix. You need to combine this training with a healthy eating plan and another form of exercise for maximum results. .For those people who dislike gym workouts, you’re likely to love Bodytec.
