Direct from its runaway successful seasons in Singapore and Johannesburg, the multi-award winning Broadway smash hit musical ‘Jersey Boys’ will open at the Artscape Opera House on June 19. The show tells the real true-life story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons who became one of the greatest successes in pop music history, selling 175 million records globally before they hit 30. The show features ever-popular hits such as ‘Sherry’, ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ and ‘My Eyes Adored You’.
Brought to audiences by Investec in association with DSTV and Tsogo Sun, ‘Jersey Boys’ is the newest Broadway musical to be staged in this country. The stellar 19-member South African cast including television star Emmanuel Castis first performed in Singapore to critical acclaim. Since the first curtain call on South African soil, critics have been raving, hundreds of fans are posting accolades on-line and the cast has received a standing ovation at every performance.
The pace of the production will blow Capetonian minds. The slick set changes, coupled with the quality of the performances, the electrifying on stage energy and memorable music make this a true real-life story that has been enjoyed by over 17.5 million people worldwide.
The Four Seasons are played by Grant Almirall as Frankie Valli; Daniel Buys as Tommy DeVito; Kenneth Meyer as Bob Gaudio and Castis as Nick Massi with Jaco van Rensburg playing Frankie Valli at certain performances.
The cast features a host of multi-talented local performers who together with the band and crew spent invaluable time fine-tuning their roles with two-time Tony Award winner and Jersey Boys Broadway director, Des McAnuff.
‘Jersey Boys’, a winner of 54 major awards including the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Musical and winner of the Best Musical Tony Award on Broadway, in London and Australia should not be mistaken for a tribute band; it is the real deal – a full-scale Broadway musical.
* Bookings are open at Computicket, or Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695.
