What I love about Cape Town is that there are selections of ‘best kept secret’ clothing stores that are like treasure troves of amazing attire.
Here are some of my favourite ‘best kept secrets’, although they might not remain that way for very much longer.
You can find anything from cocktail dresses to red carpet numbers. Their one-off garments are manufactured locally and are one step ahead of seasonal trends. So if you need a party dress, look no further. They also specialize in shoes and bags. (Visit www.a-list.biz.)
Mungo & Jemima
From the minute the doors of the first Mungo & Jemima boutique flung open in 2008, Cape Town’s epicentre Long Street has been privy to a beautiful home and foundation for budding designers.
The brainchild of Coppelia, Kirsty Bannerman and Marian Park-Ross of Good have now embarked on their latest journey; offering up yet another tasty contemporary style feast to suit the more discerning shopper.
The new residency situated in Claremont affords the shopper an opus of comfort and allure whilst browsing through folds of fabric, handpicked by the creators of M & J.
By placing consumers in direct contact with great designer collections in a unique and relaxed environment, one can easily find the perfect fit that spotlights one’s individual style. Appealing to shoppers of all ages who seek clothing that has its own voice, M&J puts quality and exclusivity at the heart of the brand. (Visit www.mungoandjemima.com.)
LABEL Collections founder and chief designer Nadia Turton displayed an early interest in fashion. Working in the retail industry she learned the basics and gained an idea of what she liked before graduating from Cape Tech with a degree in fashion design in 2001.
Nadia then spent two years in London familiarising herself with international style trends. Upon returning to Cape Town she gained experience designing for retailers Truworths, Foschini and Edgars before finally launching LABEL
Collections. They are situated at Manhattan Building, 60 Hopkins Street, Salt River. (For appointments or for online shopping, visit labelcollections.com.)
And there are a variety of Capetonians supplying products locally and internationally via their online stores. Why not check out the following websites.
Popyacollar’s online shop offers a unique selection of hand-picked garments from boutique shops in and around Cape Town. (Visit www.popyacollar.co.za.)
Anna Jones Apparal
They blend classic British style with urban flare and they’re serious about putting local SA designers on the map. Their range includes ladies and men’s wear, handbags, jeweller and vintage. (Visit annajonesapparel.com.)
