The Cellar Rats 2013 Port & Red Wine Festival will take place at the “Old Mill”, Magaliesberg on Sunday May 26 from 11am to 3pm. The event will benefit the Woodland School and Happy Acres.
The emphasis of the festival is to showcase some of South Africa’s best Port, Sherry, Grappa, Potstill Brandy and dessert wines in a tranquil outdoor setting; and this year the organisers have decided to add red wine to the programme. To this end, more than 50 producers will present in excess of 140 fortified and red wine products.
The Festival is family friendly, with supervised entertainment for children whilst the parents relax and enjoy the wines in the countryside.
Twelve years ago, Woodland School in Magaliesberg approached Cellar Rats Wine Tasting Club to assist them with an annual fund raising event, and the Cellar Rats Spring Wine Festival was born. Four years ago the organisers realized that there is no festival in Joburg to showcase the Fortified wines produced in South Africa, so it was decided to produce a Port and Sherry festival.
Now in its fifth year, the Cellar Rats Port & Red Wine Festival still promotes an ethos of “good living”.
The historic “Old Mill” is situated on the banks of the picturesque Magalies River, approximately 35 minutes from Johannesburg’s Northern Suburbs. The atmosphere is relaxed and convivial, and several bonfires will be provided around the venue for warming you up once the sun starts setting and for toasting marshmallows.
Live music on the day will be provided by Dusty Moon.
* Adult Taster costs R88 (includes complimentary tasting glass)/R100 at the entrance. Entry for children is R15.
