A trip through the Cape in a sexy, sporty little number
This week I got invited to the Citroen DS3 Cabrio launch, which was a two-day affair, which hinted at being out of the ordinary.
It started with an overnight stay at Raddison Blue in Granger Bay, with a beautiful dinner at a residence in Clifton. We arrived to be welcome by two classic Citroëns and the new Citroën DS3 Cabrio at the entrance. The entertainment for the evening was award winning singer Arno Carstens, with the weather playing along perfectly. It felt like the perfect summers evening despite it being the middle of autumn.
We spent the evening at the Raddison Blue and waking up we enjoyed their famous breakfast buffet. This impressive feast features a wide variety of yoghurts, cereals, fish, fresh fruits, meats and cheeses, as well as hot items and it was the perfect start to the day.
With our tummies full it was time to start the introduction of the new Citroën DS3 Cabrio, now available in SA in three different models. The interior and exterior accessories allow you to be creative and express your personality with a multitude of style options to make your model unique.
We were then paired up to start our 300km journey of testing out this new car. My co driver was Jeanette Kritzinger, ex racing driver and radio presenter at Radio Tygerberg. She certainly showed off her skills on all the passes along the route around the Western Cape. The Citroën DS3 handled the corners well and I was super impressed that the top can open up at speeds of 120km an hour.
The 300km loop saw us going through Du Toitskloof Pass, through Rawsonville and Villiersdorp and eventually stopping for lunch at La Petite Ferme in Franschhoek. I’d always hear that lunches at La Petite Ferme Restaurant are legendary and I was blown away. A feast of culinary delights combined with the use of mainly local ingredients and incredible service made it the perfect stop before our journey home.
This was an out of the ordinary adventure seeing me enjoy an amazing new vehicle and incredible local spots around Cape Town. If you get a chance, the Citroën DS3 Cabrio is worth a test drive.
