Grand Designs Live, one of SA’s most fabulous home and garden shows, is just around the corner and once again promises more home design inspiration at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg from May 24 to 26. Now in its fourth year and celebrating the theme of City Living, Grand Designs Live Home & Garden Show is the best place to get innovative ideas for every single room in your home – as well as the garden too.
This year’s event will bring back some firm favourites from previous years, along with some exciting new additions. From the minute they step into the famous Grand Designs Tunnel, which this year will be created in conjunction with Extenzo, guests will notice the Abacus Gardens Wishing Well, a brand new feature for this year’s show. This will be the earliest sighting of many ‘firsts’ at the show, which range from Craft Beer Gardens to Interactive Robots and even a stand inspired by ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. In order to make Grand Designs Live even more beautiful, Belgotex and Duraturf, the official floor sponsors have provided garden turf throughout the show to create an outside living feel
Within the Interiors section, visitors will find creative design and ideas for the interior look and feel of one’s home to transform it into the stuff of dreams. It’s not just about bricks and mortar – the way you furnish your home is fundamental to its atmosphere and comfort. To make it more interactive, visitors will get the chance to “Ask the Expert’ and receive inspiration for every aspect of their homes.
This year the Grand Theatre is bigger and better. The 2013 Grand Theatre’s design has been done in conjunction with Stephen Black from the world famous Black fabrics as well as 03 Cubed, who have been working with the design team in putting together a spectacular theatre. Here, visitors can view celebrities and experts giving top trends and unique insight and inspiration for your home. This is the place to be for all the latest on the pulse ideas for your abode. Not only will there be the crème de la crème of celebrities and experts, but there will be comic relief too from comedians that will be there to entertain design enthusiasts. Join top celebrities Tanya Visser, Juliet Newell, Sharon Glass and Sureshnie Rider as well as experts Stephen Black, cake genie Deon Swarts, Jill Manson and top blogger Vicki Sleet for the most topical trend advice.
Of course, the garden is just as important as any of the rooms are in creating a beautiful home. Grand Gardens will focus on all aspects that will help you make your garden an active part of your home with inspirational tips and expert advice. Whether you are completely re-landscaping, creating a practical outdoor space or just looking for some finishing touches to compliment your garden, you’ll find everything you need in the garden features at Grand Designs Live.
The Garden Theatre will be presented in association with Abacus Gardens and The Gardener/Die Tuinier, where some great gardeners, including everyone’s favourite Tanya Visser, will be discussing a range of interesting and relevant topics about the garden. This year Garden and Home Magazine brings a magical Fantasy Woodland to life, designed by leading garden designer Jan Blok where it will feature whimsical décor and gardening elements to inspire and delight.
A brand new competition has been launched this year – The Floral Design Competition, which is a first for Grand Designs Live. This competition appeals to all amateur floral designers who will have the chance to work with top floral designer, Jill Manson. The winner for this competition will receive R5000 in cash, flowers from Electric Butterfly for a year, a four module course in Floral Design with Corollation Floral Design School as well as a voucher for a flower healing workshop with Flowerscape.
For those who like to do it all themselves when it comes to renovating and decorating their homes and gardens, the DIY Theatre sponsored by Builders Express and Builders Warehouse will have experts on hand to provide cutting-edge and innovative ideas.
For all the foodies looking to tantalise their taste buds, The Grand Gourmet Market will offer delicious delights. In the middle of the market vibe, guests will have a chance to select some home-grown goodness to take away with them.
