Now is the time to get yourself and your family onto Cape Town’s Red Bus. City Sightseeing – the company that runs the iconic red double decker open-topped sightseeing buses – has opened their 3 for 1 Kids Special where, on weekends, public and school holidays, two kids under the age of 18 can travel for free on the City Sightseeing bus or Canal Cruise boat with any full-paying adult.
Tickets for the City Sightseeing bus cost R150 and if you purchase them online you get a further R30 discount – costing you just R120 per adult ticket.
The best part is that this 3 for 1 special, unlike many other special offers, is valid on weekends, school holidays and public holidays – exactly the times when families are looking for something fun to do. Running until the end of October, the City Sightseeing Kids Special covers special days such as Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Youth Day, Women’s Day, Heritage Day, the June/July school holidays as well as the September holidays.
For pensioners over 60 there is also a Pensioners Special where you can buy half price tickets for the City Sightseeing bus or Canal Cruise boat on Tuesdays and Fridays. (These special pensioners’ tickets, which cannot be combined with any other specials, are only available from the ticket office at Bus Stop 1 outside the Two Oceans Aquarium and you must show your SA bar-coded ID book to qualify.)
Start your Cape Town experience with the Red City Tour which comprises of 18 exciting stops within the city. Best of all is that the City Sightseeing Kids Special runs at the same time as Table Mountain’s Kidz Season special, which also offers a two kids free with any paying adult deal – so you can hop onto the Red City Tour, hop off at bus stop 13 at Table Mountain, and make use of both special deals for an amazing family day out.
From here be sure to set aside another day and experience the scenic Blue Mini Peninsula Tour, which takes you beyond the city limits to 14 stops, including Kirstenbosch, Mariner’s Wharf and World of Birds, and also offers a free Wine Bus Tour that takes visitors to Groot Constantia, Eagles’ Nest and Beau Constantia.
Another fun activity is the City Sightseeing Canal Cruise, which offers a great nautical adventure for the entire family for R30 per adult, and the Kids Special applies here too – meaning two kids under the age of 18 can travel for free with any full-paying adult – the most budget friendly cruise on offer anywhere. The Canal Cruise boat, which runs every 30 minutes from 9am to 5pm, has a kappie to keep you dry should it rain and you can also enjoy an onboard commentary in 16 languages telling you the story of our marine history.
Autumn is here and the days are getting cooler and shorter.
The promise of winter is in the air and the rains have begun. But talk of rain does not mean that it is time to retreat indoors – on the contrary – this time of the year offers glorious warm days without the sometimes oppressive heat of summer, making this the perfect time to get out there and explore all that Cape Town and the Peninsula have to offer.
* Grab your tickets at the City Sightseeing ticket kiosk outside the Two Oceans Aquarium or buy them online at www.citysightseeing.co.za. Call City Sightseeing on 021 511 6000. Buses operate daily from 9am and includes a fun Kids Channel.
