If you are a MyCiTi user who regularly meets for working lunches in Cape Town then the Arts Cafe is the perfect venue.
Perched on the majestic steps of the Artscape Theatre you only have to cross one road once exiting the MyCiTi terminus to get to this hidden gem.
Arts Cafe sports a slick interior of red, white and grey and is a welcome oasis in the windy Foreshore.
Their reasonably priced menu consisting of breakfasts, burgers and sandwiches is also a welcome break from the usual slap chips and boerewors rolls, which seems to be the only thing on offer on that side of town. I spotted a R25 breakfast, which is a steal considering the setting and how much you could spend at other mid-range eateries in the CBD.
They are also licensed so you can indulge in a glass of wine or beer with your lunch. Restaurant Manager George Gilbert says not enough MyCiTi users seem aware that they are there. “It’s a nice spot for a quick cup of coffee if you are waiting for the bus,” he says.
Arts Cafe opens at 9am and closes depending on show times at the theatre.
