Foodies all over the Mother City are revving their palates in preparation for the ultimate food adventure – the annual Taste of Cape Town.
The festival is now in its sixth year and shows no sign of losing any of its distinctive flavour. Catch it from April 11 to 14 at the Green Point Cricket Club. This year some of the exotic treats on offer include sea cucumber, sea truffle, kimchi, miso and tom yum butter, snotvis, tataki and a lucky star pie.
Some of the featured restaurants include The Twelve Apostle’s Azure Restaurant, 96 Winery Road, De Grendel Restaurant, Fyndraai Restaurant, Signal Restaurant at the Cape Grace, Savour at 15 on Orange, Jewel of India, Beefcakes Burger Bar, Dash Restaurant and Bar at the Queen Victoria Hotel, Il Leone Mastrantonio and The Brasserie.
The pop up restaurant feature from previous festivals returns this year with celebrity chef Luke Dale-Roberts of The Test Kitchen/The Pot Luck Club. Other restaurants included are La Colombe with Scot Kirton and Tanja Kruger of Makaron Restaurant at Majeka House.
A brand new initiative is the Taste Craft Beer Project which will showcase more than 18 of the country’s best quality craft beer on tap. Each brew will be paired with dishes featured at the festival
Other culinary highlights include the Food Market, which boasts hand-picked artisan producers, premium drink brands and award-winning wineries in the laid back atmosphere of a boutique food market.
The Pick n Pay Chef’s Theatre will feature live demos by top chefs and the Canapé Experience will reveal the secrets to creative pairings of canapés and wine in an interactive area.
Lindt’s Master Chocolatiers will be hand crafting fresh truffles and pralines to enjoy along with Lindt Hot Chocolate in the alfresco dining area.
The Royal Thai Embassy will host a Thai cooking demonstration where the secrets to one of the world’s favourite cuisines will be explained.
This year festival goers can enhance their experience by using the Taste Fest App, which is available to Apple, Android and Blackberry users.
The app helps you navigate the show and make the most of the visit like highlighting interesting facts on chefs, restaurants and festival exhibitors.
There will also be tons of fun for little ones thanks to Party Tots. Sections for kids to play on a jumping castle, in the ball pond and enjoy the worm tunnel mean mommies and daddies can enjoy the adult fun while their kids are being well looked after for a mere R20 an hour.
