Like Father, Like Son

‘Ek sal jou leer speel, maar jy moenie nonsense ko’ speelie.’ These were the words of the late great Taliep Petersen to his only son, Ashur Petersen, the day he picked up the guitar for the first time, asking his dad to teach him how to play. Like Father, Like Son is a collection of stories threaded together by personal tunes which have lent themselves to the soundtrack of the 20-year-old’s life with his legendary father.

Kaapse Stories

This delightful musical revue celebrates the joyful, resilient spirit of the colourful people who populate the city that lies at the foot of Table Mountain. Couched in the recent history of the Cape, “Kaapse Stories” deftly relates stories of Cape Town and her people, their struggles, victories and personalities, all with a hefty dose of comedy. With classic songs made famous by artists such as Miriam Makeba, Freddy Mercury and even Shakira (with the “World Cup” song), there is something for everyone. The opera part of the evening is stupefying, but, hush, we don’t want to reveal any more. Spellbound best describes what audiences are, when they discover the magical voices and soaring talent on display in this unique, local production.
