Capetonians are being encouraged to dig deep for a good cause and enter the fun Hout Bay Sandcastle Competition happening next week. This year the theme is “Sights and Sounds of Hout Bay”, so get your thinking caps on and start planning your design.
The event is hosted by Valley Pre-Primary School and usually attracts hundreds of enthusiastic children, families, schools and corporate teams, who compete to create the most impressive sandcastles to match the theme and to raise funds for education projects in the Hout Bay area.
This year the funds raised will help disadvantaged children to receive helpful services like Occupational and Speech Therapy, Language Enrichment as well as school outings and stationery.
Valley Pre-Primary has also partnered with Bright Start to provide 10 bursaries for underprivileged children to attend the school. Another partnership with the Hangberg Educational Trust raises funds for Hout Bay Educare.
The event takes place at 9.30am on Hout Bay beach on Saturday April 13 and registration takes place at 8.30am. Entry fees are R30 an adult and R15 a child. Corporate teams and sponsored Sonwabile teams pay R700. School teams competing in the interschool category pay R150. Corporate teams can be branded on the day. If you prefer being a supporter instead of a competitor though there will still be plenty to do. A magic show as well as plenty of food and drink stalls will keep everyone entertained while the building is happening.
Celebrity judges will decide on the winners and a great variety of prizes for adults and kids are sure to keep everyone happy.
