It’s a measure of how good a place is when you can’t find a seat so things were looking good for Café Frank when I arrived to check it out this week.
Nominated by MyCiti users as one of their favourite Cape Town spots along the rapid transit route, Café Frank is part deli and coffee shop and you can even pick up a bottle of artisanal beer or wine if you fancy.
Café Frank was literally a hole in the wall serving customers through a window when it opened on the corner of Bree and Bloem street four years ago. It has now extended to include outside tables and chairs and bench seating inside.
Most of the clientele during the week consist of office workers but on a Saturday that shifts to families from the suburbs who explore the artsy Bree Street area, which is just enough off the beaten track to not be over-run with hipsters. The menu is split into breakfast, lunch and specials and some interesting combinations on offer include tabouleh salad with apricots and a delicious sounding butternut and pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting.
The iced coffee is prepared fresh every day with a secret espresso blend that is so good one customer comes all the way from Bellville for his fix once a week.
I was also excited to spot the elusive ‘flat white’ on the menu- a cappuccino that is skimmed of airy froth leaving a silky milk layer (so much better than a cappuccino I promise!).
The closest MyCiti Stop is on Loop Street and from there it is only a short walk around the corner.
