Her hit show ‘Porra’ took South Africa on a comical journey into what it means to be Portuguese and now Sonia Esgueira is back with what promises to be another cult classic. Her new comedy ‘So…you think you can love?’ opens at the Artscape Arena on March 8 and runs until the March 29 and judging by the success of Esgueira’s previous productions, theatregoers are advised to get their tickets early to avoid missing out.
Directed by John Trengove, ‘So…you think you can love?’ is a comedy about dating, denial and the never ending quest for love. Esgueira’s eye for detail and comedic timing is put to the test as she portrays a host of desperate characters past their sell-by-dates who will stop at nothing to find love. This includes speed dating, one night stands, seeking the help of sangomas, psychics, joining a polygamous cult in India and proposing to a gay man.
An award winning actress, comedienne, theatre producer, playwright and voice artist, Esgueira’s sharp wit and observant eye has made her one of South Africa’s most unique actresses that shape-shifts seamlessly from drama, comedy, film, theatre, TV, MCing to voice-overs.
