Pack the picnic blanket and head to Paarl Rock for a day of delights for the family at the Ommiberg ‘Round the Rock’ wine festival on Saturday March 9.
A short drive from the Northern Suburbs or CBD will see you arrive in the thick of harvest around the world’s largest winelands rock.
Start the day stomping about in freshly harvested grapes, then let the children loose to enjoy the ample space with pony rides, slip ‘n slides, jumping castles and kids’ croquet; balloon shaping and pony rides. Finally, a water slide to wash the juice away while you recline with tapas-style treats and delectably sweet, part-fermented 2013-vintage wine.
Take your pick of farm fresh foods, whether gourmet cheese and charcuterie on a still-warm crispy loaf, or a simple but wholesome hotdog with homemade sauce for the kids. Music will range from jazz and blues to cabaret and rock at the various participating wine estates.
* Early bird tickets are priced at R80 from www.computicket.co.za, or R100 on the day, while accompanied children under 18 years of age enter for free. Unfiltered wine, live music and Zwiebelkuchen (onion tart) tastings are free throughout the event, while sit-down meals and special activities should be booked before hand and are payable separately.
