Cape Town has a new ultimate food destination

Entrenching its position as one of Cape Town’s ultimate gastronomic destinations, the V&A Market on the Wharf has a new on-site demo chef, a kid’s entertainment area and weekend entertainment to add to its laurels.

According to V&A Market on the Wharf co-owner, Greg Anderson this is a world class fresh food and produce market. “This is the first permanent market of it’s kind in Cape Town and I believe it competes with the best in the world offering fresh, artisanal and gourmet foods”, he added.
Since opening in December 2012, the V&A Market on the Wharf, is growing in popularity as locals and visitors to the Waterfront discover the international array of delectable fare, as well as locally produced and organic produce.

There is food from across the globe: Taiwanese Dim Sum to traditional Transylvanian Hungarian Chimney Cakes; wedges of Italian mozzarella to rich hunger-busting Mediterranean fare. But local is still lekker and you will also find local butchers, bakers, chocolatiers and cheese makers. Shop from the traders for easy home entertaining and family meals or snack on site – there are oysters, Malay curries, good coffee and delicious baked goods.

Not your average food market, the V&A Market on the Wharf is host to a wide variety of carefully selected vendors who are all passionate about their product and eager to share their fresh, local, organic or homemade produce with locals. Whether you are looking for a lunchtime taste sensation during the week, or a vibey new place to have drinks after work or on the weekend, the V&A Market on the Wharf is always bustling.

From cheeses, prime-cut, grain-fed beef and freshly caught fish, to olives, flowers, marmalades, teas, coffees and chocolates, the market is an ideal place to do your weekly grocery shopping.
The newly installed Kid’s entertainment area is safe and hygienic to leave your kids while you shop to cook at home, or buy ready-made fare to enjoy at the rustic wooden tables with a view.

It is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9.30am to 6pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and 9.30am to 7.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The Market is conveniently situated in Nobel Square between the Two Oceans Aquarium and the V&A Hotel, with parking just 20 metres away. The Market is air-conditioned, which makes shopping easy and enjoyable. The drop and go service means that you don’t have to carry your produce-laden shopping bags around all afternoon; simply drop them off and then collect them on your way out.

If you are planning an event or a party, the Demo Kitchen, is the venue to book, where guests can relax and be educated and entertained while a celebrity chef guides them through the steps required to create a gourmet dish.
