‘The Vagina Monologues’ in Afrikaans

‘The Vagina Monologues’ in Afrikaans

Gé Korsten, Omo, Wilson-toffees, ‘Wat Elke Meisie Moet Weet’ and “Daar Onder”: all traditional Afrikaans staples. Eve Ensler’s world reknown ‘The Vagina Monologues’ has already been translated in 48 languages – and now it will be performed for the first time in Afrikaans at The Intimate Theatre from February 13 to 23, Wednesdays to Saturdays at 8pm.

The essence of the play is femininity in all her levels. And through true South African characters (from Waterkloof to Mitchells Plain), the ‘Die Vagina Monoloë’ is attempting to give a voice to women and men to voice their – secret and suppressed – fears.

The show will be performed by Antoinette Louw (‘Nag, Ma’; ‘Dis ek, Anna’; ‘Die Proponentjie’; ‘Inge’ from ‘7de Laan’), Lulu Botha (‘Grieta kry geleerdheid’; ‘Die proponentjie’; ‘Paloekas’) and Simone Biscombe (‘Kaapse Kabaret’).
