There’s virtually nothing as romantic as celebrating Valentine’s Day with a lover on one of the Cape’s many award winning wine farms. Following is a selection of some of the best Valentine’s options to make it an extra special year.
Whisper sweet nothings in your beloved’s ear when you head to Durbanville Hills Wines for a feast of Valentine’s Day treats on February 14.
The Eatery at Durbanville Hills will be offering something for everyone whether it be a romantic picnic under the olive trees, lunch served either inside the newly refurbished restaurant or on the deck overlooking the valley, as well as a special Valentine’s Day three-course dinner.
The picnics are offered from 12pm to 3.30pm and again from 7pm to 9pm. Cost is R420 per basket serving two and includes the use of a picnic blanket, cushions, cutlery, crockery and glassware.
Lunch will be served from the à la carte menu from 12:00 to 15:00 and includes a complimentary glass of Merlot Rosé on arrival.
Bookings are essential for the picnics and three-course dinner and recommended for lunch. Call The Eatery on 021 5581337, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nederburg’s novel restaurant the Red Table, with its unique configuration of red tables meandering through the Manor House and into the gardens, will add an exciting twist to its standard menu on Thursday February 14.
On this day only extra starter items will include West Coast oysters with chilli, lime and rice vinegar, as well as a helping of tempura tiger prawns with a crisp fresh baby leaf and mango salad on the side.
For the main course try the grilled Norwegian salmon served with a warm fondant potato, leek and cherry tomato salad drizzled with a lemon dressing. From the range of desserts the Valentine special is a soothingly sweet upside-down honey cheesecake with seasonal berry compote.
Starters range from R65 to R90 per person and mains are priced from R75 to R145. A selection of desserts is available from R45 to R55.
For something a little different a Valentine picnic basket for two or more can also be pre-ordered for R250 per person. The baskets will come packed to the brim with finely prepared savoury and sweet treats. The basket also contains favourites such as strawberries dipped in Belgium chocolate and petite red velvet cupcakes are included. There is also a bottle of Nederburg Brut to add to the occasion.
Booking is essential. For reservations at the restaurant, or to pre-book picnic baskets, call 021 862 3104 or send an e-mail to email@example.com. Visit www.nederburg.com/theredtable for more information.
