Good news for lovers of Dixie, Swing and good old jazz tunes: Platform Jazz is back at the Rhumbelow Theatre.
Since their performance at the Rhumbelow in January 2012 Platform Jazz performed at a number of events and places including various fundraisers for schools and churches, a week long run at the Heritage in June, Jazz and Shiraz at Riverbend croc farm, an evening of Jazz at the Village of Happiness, The Hilton Festival and they opened the line-up of acts for ECR’s Durban day in September.
This time the featured vocalist is Durban’s sultry Shelley “Nightingale” McLean. The band promises a varied programme which will include favourites like ‘Honeysuckle Rose’, ‘Tiger Rag’, ‘I’ve Got you under My skin’, ‘In the Mood’, ‘Take 5’ and ‘Almost Like being in Love’, to name a few. One of the highlights of the show is ‘Hey Big Spender’ where McLean interacts with Dunc “the Hunk” Wooldridge and his red trombone.
The musos include Cathy “Hotlips” Peacock on trumpet, Ian “lightning fingers” Holloway on clarinet, Duncan Wooldridge on trombone, the honourable Jono Judge on sax, Melvini “The Keys” Peters on keyboard, “Bashful“ Bruce Baker on drums and Andreas “Bullfiddel” Kappen on double Bass.
