Following on from the rocking New Year’s Eve concert by High Masekela and Hot Water, The The Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concert series taking place at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden will play host to some of South Africa’s most renowned music stars in the coming weeks. Here is a list of the artists that music fans can look forward to.
Arno Carstens – January 6
During his career as the lead singer of Springbok Nude Girls and subsequently as a solo artist, rock singer Arno Carstens has released 10 studio albums, had over 20 top ten singles, won five SAMA Awards and shared the stage with legends of the music world including U2, The Rolling Stones and R.E.M. He has toured extensively in SA, the UK, Europe and the USA. In 2012, Arno recorded his fourth solo album, which is the landmark tenth studio album of his 20-year music career, titled ‘Atari Gala’.

The Parlotones – January 13
Over the past 10 years The Parlotones have become South Africa’s most accomplished rock band of all time. The band career highlights include three platinum and 3 double platinum albums, performing at the FIFA World Cup kick off concert, Live Earth, Olympics as well as performances in over 150 cities around the world. To top things off the band received an invitation from Chris Martin of Coldplay to perform with them on their SA tour. The time has come for The Parlotones to fly the SA flag on a global scale like never before and they will be relocating to Los Angels in January 2013.

Jimmy Dludlu – January 20
Jimmy Dludlu has come a long way from that moment when at the age of 13 he first picked up a handmade guitar. He taught himself to play and went on to become a global jazz icon. Dludlu continues to compose and make the kind of jazz music that stirs the soul – clearly influenced by various cultures around the continent and his interaction with other musicians on the world stage. His latest album, ‘Tonoto’, introduces new facets of the mercurial artist to fans and opens one up to feeling the world in a whole new way.
