The Cape Town Summer Market wants you to relax and enjoy your surroundings, which is why it will boast a special bar where it’s compulsory to put your feet up.
The Company’s Garden Party is setting up shop in front of the Iziko South African National Gallery for the duration of the 11-day Cape Town Summer Market, which will take place in the Company’s Garden from December 14 to 24. (You can find out more about The Company’s Garden Party on their Facebook page.)
Thousands of people are expected to visit the market to buy gifts, artisanal goods and quintessential Cape products over the two weeks in preparation for Christmas.
With stalls lining the Garden and a wide range of entertainment, it is expected that visitors will also want to kick off their shoes and relax while contemplating the beauty of their surroundings.
The market would therefore not be complete without a place to relax in style – and the Company’s Garden Party will offer all of that, and more.
Market-goers will be able to sip on seven quality draft beers and two draft craft ciders (all on tap). Delicious Cape wines, bubbles and Pimm’s will also be served while live jazz serenades visitors.
Aidan Whytock and Ross Esson, who came up with the Garden Party concept, has said that if the inaugural event at the Cape Town Summer Market proves successful, they will make it an annual feature of the festive season.
“Cape Town doesn’t have a proper beer garden; one in an actual garden. We have all the elements to create a world-class beer garden and so it is fitting that our first venue is at the Cape Town Summer Market, at the Company’s Garden,” Whytock and Esson say. “The Garden has always been an integral part of the city centre, and is a place where many people come to relax and replenish themselves.”
Alderman Belinda Walker, City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for Economic, Environmental and Spatial Planning, says the Company’s Garden Party is an example of the ingenuity displayed by entrepreneurs.
“We anticipate that visitors will be delighted by the wide range of goods for sale at the 200 stalls. One of our goals is to give crafters and entrepreneurs opportunities to build demand for their goods and services.”
* Entrance to the Company’s Beer and Wine Garden Party will be R40 for those over 18 and will be free to children. No alcohol will be served to minors.
