Health and Beauty: Sun alert

By RoxyK

The sun is out and the bikinis are in. This is the time to apply your sunscreen. There are so many out there, so which one do we use? We are all aware the body needs vitamin D from the sun, but too much exposure can be dangerous. Salt water and chlorine also strip the skin of its protective lipids, causing the natural moisture to evaporate faster. Always wear protective sunglasses and a large brimmed hat when exposed to the sun.

Many sunscreens protect against ultraviolet B radiation and not against the ultraviolet A or UVA, which is more dangerous. Choose a sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. Read the labels on the item and use one that is without chemicals that would damage the skin. Creams with natural ingredients are much better to use. For women, sun damage and wrinkles are the most important factors, so a fragrance free is the best one to use.

Formulations that are water resistant, non-greasy and instantly absorbed will keep you protected against the harsh rays of the sun. It is also a good idea during this time to change your skincare range to one that is rich in plant extracts. This helps the key elements of the skin’s structure to maintain firmness and provide an instant lift.  Masks are made to penetrate the skin – they contain higher levels of active ingredients, so use twice a week.

Apply your moisturiser and a sunscreen with a high of SPF 15. This should be sufficient enough to protect the skin against burning and drying out. Never wear makeup to the beach or whilst going swimming. This will just cause burning and skin damage. Switch to a heavier night cream as this will repair the skin while you are asleep. Sun spots can be eliminated by using a serum under your moisturiser. Exfoliate the skin once a week to get rid of dead skin cells, unblock pores and deep cleanse.

The body also needs protection against the sun, so eat right to avoid deep lines and wrinkles. Fruit, vegetables and green tea all help nourish and protect the body from the inside.
It cannot be overstated how important sunscreen is this summer, so help your body maintain a firmer, smoother look.
