This festive season, the Two Oceans Aquarium is offering everyone the opportunity to spend a little more time exploring the wonders of its underwater world. With extended hours, gift membership, diving and loads of fun for the little ones, the Aquarium is thoroughly geared to be a destination of note for the holidays.
From December 17 until January 6, the Aquarium will be open from 9am until 8pm (from 9am to 6pm on Christmas Day). After a jam-packed day, bring your family and friends for a leisurely visit to the Aquarium and perhaps an early dinner at Shoreline Café with its entertaining I&J Children’s Play Centre. This is the perfect opportunity for young families looking for an alternative early evening dining experience to the franchise family eateries. (The kitchen at the venue closes at 7.30pm.)
Looking for a gift for that person that has absolutely everything? Spoil them with a Solemates membership to the Two Oceans Aquarium – the gift that keeps on giving for a whole year. Membership benefits include unlimited admission to the Aquarium for a year, special members’ events, discounted prices and more.
An all-weather venue, the Two Oceans Aquarium is the ideal destination for families wanting to escape the heat and bustle. Amongst the favourites is the ever-popular Nemo exhibit – an interactive display enabling children to get real close to Nemo and be photographed as if “inside” the exhibit.
Other highlights include the hypnotic kelp forest where silver fishes glide amongst swaying kelp; the daily feeding of the fishes in the I&J Predator Exhibit (3pm) and the African penguins in the Sappi River Meander Exhibit (11.30am and 2.30pm); and the touch pool where young and old alike can get their hands wet and touch and feel a variety of marine creatures and plants e.g. anemones, ‘dead man’s fingers’ and crabs.
Besides a myriad of spectacular exhibits, the Aquarium offers holiday activities including arts and crafts and puppet shows in the Aquarium’s AfriSam Children’s Play Centre, which overlooks a pool currently accommodating rockhopper penguins. The Centre also has its own modular play system for children needing to let off some steam.
The Two Oceans Aquarium’s Adventure Dive programme affords qualified divers the opportunity to dive in the I&J Predator Exhibit. This Exhibit is certainly one of the show-stoppers at the Aquarium. With two million litres of water, five ragged-tooth sharks and other shoaling fish amongst the species, divers are immersed in a truly incredible experience. Advanced divers can also dive in the Ocean Basket Kelp Forest Exhibit and feed the multitude of fish. Those not qualified can enquire at the Aquarium’s Visitor Services Desk regarding a short one-day course that will enable them to dive at the Aquarium.
