Ticket sales open for smash hit musical ‘Jersey Boys’

The runaway worldwide smash hit musical ‘Jersey Boys’ will make its South African premiere at the Teatro at Montecasino in April 2013.

‘Jersey Boys’ is currently playing in major cities worldwide including New York, Las Vegas, London, Auckland, Brisbane and across the U.S.A. It will make its South African premiere at the Teatro at Montecasino on Wednesday April 3, thereafter opening at Artscape in Cape Town from Wednesday June 19. Tickets are now on sale at Computicket.

The multi-award winning musical tells the true real-life story of how four poverty-line kids from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the greatest successes in pop music history. The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records globally – all before they were thirty!

The original group were renowned for such hits as ‘Sherry’, ‘Walk like a Man’, ‘Rag Doll’, ‘Oh What a Night’ and ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’. These and numerous other Four Seasons songs have been covered by many of today’s pop artists, proving the diverse appeal and appreciation of this music as it lives on through the generations.
‘Jersey Boys’ has won 54 major awards already, including the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, as well as the 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Musical and winner of the Best Musical Tony Award on Broadway.

The production shouldn’t be mistaken for a tribute show with. It is instead a full-scale Broadway musical with a true-life story that will feature a large 19-member all South African cast and a 10-piece live band. The show takes audiences “behind the music” to tell the story of the group through each of the four members’ perspectives. The storyline weaves a tale about friendships, hardships, fights and the success resulting from a New Jersey “handshake”.

‘Jersey Boys’ opened to critical and popular acclaim on Broadway on November 6, 2005 only to break this theatre’s box office record 30 times. The production has since been seen by over 14 million people across the globe.
‘Jersey Boys’ South African Producer, Hazel Feldman of Showtime Management, has announced the 19-member multi-talented cast and introducing The Four Seasons played by Grant Almirall (‘Chicago’, ‘Evita’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’) as Frankie Valli; Daniel Buys (‘Boys in the Photograph’, ‘Mamma Mia!’) as Tommy DeVito; Kenneth Meyer (‘Boys in the Photograph’, ‘Evita’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’) as Bob Gaudio and television star Emanuel Castis (‘Scandal!’, ‘Isidingo’, season 4 winner of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’) as Nick Massi with Jaco van Rensburg (‘Showboat’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Grease’) playing Frankie Valli at certain performances.

The three leading female characters, fondly dubbed the “Jersey Girls”, will be played by Carmen Pretorius (‘Footloose!’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Cabaret’), Taryn-Lee Hudson and Kirsten Murphy (‘Some Like it Vrot’, ‘Grease’, M-Net’s ‘Crimes Uncovered’).
Musical Director Bryan Schimmel will head the South African creative team. The visiting New York based global creative team of Music Supervisor Ron Melrose, Production Supervisor Richard Hester and Associate Choreographer Danny Austin are responsible for staging ‘Jersey Boys’ globally and will work closely together with the South African creative team.
