It’s the most talked about Bond movie and she’s the Bond girl that everyone’s talking about. Last week ‘Skyfall’ star Bérénice Marlohe arrived in South Africa in time for the premier of the hotly anticipated new movies. Marlohe stars opposite Daniel Craig in his third outing as the legendary 007 agent.
‘Skyfall’ opens in South Africa today, but with the SA premier held last week at the Zone in Rosebank (Johannesburg), it was only fitting that the Bond girl was in SA for opening night.
The dress code was Black Tie and of course there was a red carpet. The invitation stated that it would be a very formal affair with high profile media, celebrities, key stake holders as well as government officials in attendance. Of course they didn’t mention that the Bond Girl would also be there, but it was all over the media on the morning of the premier. Every theatre at The Zone was booked out for the premier, with most of SA’s big names attending. Comedian David Kau, Anele Mdoda, Zuraida Jardine, Jennifer Su, Sasha Martinengo and Minnie Dlamini were all there.
Everyone was dressed in their finest designer wear, which is not what you’d usually wear when going to watch a movie, but it added to the glitz and glamour of the event. The Twittersphere was abuzz with tweets of which designer each celeb was wearing. Marlohe arrived in a beautiful long red designer gown, and she stopped in at each of the theatres at The Zone to welcome the South African audience.
So what was ‘Skyfall’ like? It does follow in the footsteps of all the other Bond movies, in that it is full of action, but this time it’s not a martini that gets shaken, not stirred; it’s now a Heineken. In addition to this product placement, Marlohe and Craig also appear in the new Heineken television commercials.
‘Skyfall’ has broken world records by becoming the fastest film ever to reach £50 million at the UK box office since its launch about three weeks ago.
So what can you look forward to when you go watch the newest James Bond film? Well, the gadgets aren’t as advanced as in previous films, and Bond keeps the globe trotting to a minimum. The bond girl looks amazing and the villain is your typical baddy. All this being said, the movie is a must see for any Bond enthusiast and for any action movie fan. With an age restriction of 13, its something you can take the teens to. Definitely a good movie to be enjoyed by everyone.
