‘Annie jr.’ will come to life on stage for the first time at the National Children’ s Theatre (NCT) (on 3 Junction Avenue, Parktown) during the weeks leading to and during the school holidays until December 23.
Set in 1933 New York, the show follows young Annie as she attempts to escape from the Municipal Girls Orphanage run by child-hating matron Miss Hannigan. On the way she befriends the billionaire owner of Warbucks Mansion, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
The upbeat plot and flamboyant characters have made ‘Annie’ one of the most beloved musicals in history. What girl hasn’t dreamed of performing the title role or playing the outrageous Miss Hannigan? There are great lessons to be learned about hope, faith, and trust in this fabulously fun show.
Directed by Francois Theron, the production features a superb professional cast that will lead children on a journey through Annie’s quest for life. This charming classic includes popular songs such as ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’, ‘Easy Street’, ‘You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile’ and of course ‘Tomorrow’. The music, dancing and heart-warming story make this the perfect way to spend the holiday season.
