Capetonians, and visitors to the city, have a world of children’s entertainment, music events and shopping right on their doorstep with the V&A Waterfront’s bumper summer line-up.
Visitors can expect free summer sunset concerts featuring leading South African artists, a choral and brass festival and in-mall entertainment with roaming carollers.
As an ideal destination for families, the little ones are not forgotten. A brand new playground sporting a pirate ship, lighthouse, rowing boat and an atoll with caves will have them entertained for hours.
The children’s entertainment schedule includes Rudyard Kipling’s ‘Just So’ stories performed at the Amphitheatre, and Zumbatomic, School of Magic and Minute to Win It on the newly constructed stage in the playground. If they are still bounding with energy, the new 20m long water feature is perfect for them to splash around in.“Visitors will step into an underwater-themed fantasy world in Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre when our festive season décor is unveiled on November 17,” says V&A Waterfront spokesman Carla White.
“This is the day when we launch our summer line-up and set the tone for things to come this summer. We have the most wonderful location right on the water’s edge and our new look food court will offer great views over the kiddies playground, Amphitheatre, right down to the boats on the water and across to Table Mountain.”
The V&A is about the size of 180 rugby fields and includes diverse shopping options, a working harbour and activities ranging from scuba diving in the predator tank at the Two Ocean’s aquarium to a cycling tour around the property – all on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean with the smell the fresh sea air. “Visitors really can discover everything they wish for,’’ adds White.
