As the end of yet another year spirals towards us, what better way to swing into festive cheer than with the annual adult pantomime. This time we join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man as they journey along the Yellow Brick Road to see the wonderful Wizard of Oz, at the sunZONE, at Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World until January 13.
An institution in Durban for the past 16 years, this year’s adult panto stars Anthony Stonier, whose legs have officially been designated a world heritage site, as the Wicked Witch of the North, opposite Donnagh Roberts as Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow are played by Jacobus Van Heerden, Marc Kay and Thomie Holtzhausen, respectively. Daisy Spencer performs the part of the Good Witch and narrator.
There are also two vivacious dancers in the team this year — Chelsea Blair and Chrystal Floweday. Written and directed by Darren King, the panto’s set has been designed by King, Greg King and Bryan Hiles, with lighting design by Tina le Roux and sound by Megan Levy.
* Performances are at 7.30 pm from Tuesday to Saturday, and 2pm on Sundays. Tickets range from R110 to R130 at Computicket and seating is at tables of eight.
