Father-son rivalry explored in Oscar nominated foreign film

As part of Cinema Nouveau’s exclusive screening of the 2012 Foreign Language Film Oscar nominees, ‘Footnote’ will launch at Cinema Nouveau Cavendish Square from November 2.
A drama that intensely explores the dynamics of a father and son relationship, this is the story of competition, admiration and envy.

‘Footnote’, a film by Joseph Cedar, is the story of rivalry between a father and son. Both are eccentric professors whose lives revolve around work, but they are both completely different in their fundamental beliefs. The father is a stubborn purist who shies away from the establishment. His son, Uriel, thrives on accolades and recognition.

Starring Shlomo Bar Aba and Lior Ashkenazi, this is the tale of what happens when the tables are turned and the two are forced into a final, bitter confrontation. When the father is awarded the most valuable honour one can receive, his desperate need for recognition is betrayed and his vanity is exposed. Will his son, torn between pride and envy, sabotage his father’s glory or applaud him for his success?

The film is the second title in a series of five Foreign Film Oscar nominees to be screened exclusively at Cinema Nouveau.
