The best in African contemporary dance is currently being showcased in ‘Danse l’Afrique danse!’ at the Soweto Theatre, Soweto; at the Dance Factory and the Market Theatre in Newtown and at the Wits Theatre and Wits Art Museum in Braamfontein until October 7.
This is the ninth edition of ‘Danse l’Afrique danse!’ and it is being presented in Johannesburg for the first time. This major biennial event is part of Seasons France – South Africa 2012 & 2013, an initiative conceived and facilitated by the governments of the two countries to give the people of France and South Africa an opportunity to understand each other better through cultural, scientific, sport, education and business engagement.
Besides the bursting-at-the-seams dance programme with its more than 47 choreographers, 42 performances – 16 solos and 26 group performances and the more than 15 countries represented; there are other highlights on offer – exhibitions, colloquiums, discussions, workshops and interactive sessions.
