Heritage Day on September 24 at Iziko Museums promises to be a day filled with art, food, and fun. Explore the diversity of our cultural heritage with free entry to all the museums, including the Castle of Good Hope and Planetarium. Iziko’s Heritage Day celebration will kick off at the Iziko South African Museum at 10am. A multi-faceted programme of performances, storytelling, public dialogues and exhibitions will be hosted on the day.
Visitors will be able to conclude their Heritage Day celebrations at the free Sunset Concert on the lawns of the Company’s Garden in front of the Iziko South African Museum. Join Cape Town comedian and master of ceremonies Wayne McKay and experience a blended variety of rhythms and sounds from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
The Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Cape Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble, instead of formal wear, will perform in their own cultural outfits. A poetry performance by Tony Stuart will explore the moments of challenge, defeat and triumph which ultimately make us human. Jazz band Hassan’adas will blend original African rhythms and sounds with influences from musicians all over the globe to create a jazzy latin vibe.
Purchase a cheese and biscuit hamper from the SA Museum Shop and Café or snacks from the food stalls and experience the diversity of our cultural heritage through sound.
