Last Thursday saw over 300 of Cape Town’s ladies all enjoying a night out with the Next 48hOURS in Cape Town at Nu Metro V&A Waterfront. I always expected the girls night to be fun, but I had no idea it would prove to be this amazing; nothing short of spectacular.

Nu Metro’s Girls Night Out is a great way to experience the comedies and chick flicks that our male counterparts refuse point blank to watch with us. It was my first time at a girls’ night out event in Cape Town and it was an evening to enjoy with girlfriends, with great prizes up for grabs.

As the ladies arrived, we were welcomed with glasses of Champagne, wine, Appletiser and cupcakes served by topless waiters. There were many sponsors present who made sure the ladies were entertained.

So what did we watch? We watched ‘Magic Mike’. When I first saw the trailer for ‘Magic Mike’, I thought it looked tremendously bad, but as it turns out the movie far exceeded my expectations.

One thing I didn’t know before the movie is that actor Channing Tatum worked a brief stint as a stripper and the film is loosely based on some of the experiences he had during that time. Tatum plays Magic Mike, one of the stars of a male revue in Tampa. He picks up random construction jobs by day, but the real money and fun begins when he steps on stage every night. When asked why he does such a thing, he replies, “Women, money and a good time.” Indeed, he has a steady rotation of women he wakes up next to each morning.

The movie also stars Matthew McConaughey who plays the role of a shrewd narcissist who swaggers around and keeps the strippers under his thumb. His standard evening wear is a cowboy hat, leather pants and a leather vest that ensures a good view of his ripped abs.

Now, Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey ‘s abs weren’t the only ones on display that evening. The ladies also enjoyed entertainment before the movie by belly dancers and bare-chested male waiters.

Ayanda Tini from Good Hope FM acted as the MC of the evening, handing out loads of prizes valued at over R30 000 in the lucky draws, with the big prize being an overnight stay at Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve.

Other prizes for the evening included tickets for the winner and nine friends for another Girls Night Out ; and tickets to ‘Mass Hysteria’, a comedy show with some of South Africa’s top comedians.

Every lady received a goodie bag filled with fantastic goodies including two tickets to Go Glamour Expo which celebrates Health and Beauty at the CTICC from 3-5 Aug,

If you are looking for something fun to do with your girlfriends, then join Next 48hOURS next month at Nu Metro V&A Waterfront for another Girls’ Night Out on the 16 August for Step Up Revolution in 3D. Bookings now open at www.numetro.co.za
