Fans hot blooded Spanish music take note: ‘Soul of Fire’ is a new production conceived by Zanne Stapelberg and New York pianist, Kathleen Tagg that highlights music from Spain and Latin America.
It will show at Die Boer Theatre Restaurant in Durbanville on Friday July 13 and Saturday July 14 at 8pm, with an extra matinee performance on Sunday July 15 at 1.30pm.
‘Soul of Fire’ mixes musical genres and fans of Stapelberg’s signature songs in Spanish can look forward to original arrangements of these compositions.
The program also includes new arrangements of folk songs from Spain, Argentina, Venezuela and Uruguay with a combination of instruments that include the violin, piano, bass and percussion.
This is the third Stapelberg-Tagg collaboration and they are enlisting the help of renowned musicians to fuel their live show, which premiered last summer at the Oude Libertas Amphitheater.
Stapelberg’s career highlights include the Cosmopolitan Awesome Woman Award for her opera work, South Africa’s most prestigious art award, the Standard Bank Young Artist for Music, singing leading roles in operas across South Africa and Europe and sharing the stage with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Johnny Clegg.
Tagg has made her home in New York for the past 11 years and has performed often in Carnegie Hall and at New York’s Lincoln Center and Symphony Space. She has also performed in Europe, Asia and across South Africa, garnering many awards and critical acclaim.
