Holden Manz wine estate is located in Franschhoek and is what one would call an “all-rounder”, because not only do they make exceptional wines, they boast a five star Country House for tranquil Wineland stay-overs, a state of the art spa and to top it all off they are home to one of the valley’s leading restaurants, The Franschhoek Kitchen. Farm grown produce is creatively used by executive chef Cheyne Morrisby, creating delicious food. Chef Cheyne has vast international restaurant experience, including cooking for celebrities such as Kylie Minogue and Kate Moss

The owners of the estate, Gerard and Migo travel extensively and they fell in love with South Africa during their first visit to the country in the 1990s. Through their travels, Gerard and Migo have developed their own unique vision for Holden Manz – combining award winning wines and great food with a natural approach towards a healthy and wholesome life in the countryside. A visit to the estate will prove that this vision has now become a reality.

Holden Manz regularly hosts Winemakers Dinners at their restaurant, featuring selected wines from wineries to showcase alongside their own. The next dinner takes place on May 16 and will feature Merlot and Karl Lambour and Schalk Opperman of the Holden Manz winemaking team, who will be joined by the winemakers of Haskell Vineyards, Meerlust and Thelema for a memorable evening showcasing their flagship Merlots. The five course menu for the evening will start with a scrumptious shitake mushroom and coconut cream risotto paired with the Haskell Vineyards Merlot 2008, followed by hearty beef tataki with mustard, mirin and micro herbs, served with the silky Holden Manz Merlot 2010.

Next on the menu will be Duck breast, served with sweet potato and miso puree, star anise syrup and watermelon jelly, complemented by the full bodied Meerlust Merlot 2008. The mouth watering taste of lamb cutlets with kimchi, coriander and chives, will be paired with the Thelema Merlot Reserve 2009.  The evening will be concluded on a sweet note with dark chocolate quenelles and salted caramel served with the majestic Holden Manz Good Sport Cape Vintage 2009. The dinner starts at 7pm and booking is essential. Cost per head: R300.

The Holden Manz tasting room is open daily from 10am to 5pm.
